Football at Pennoni

This story goes back to sometime between 1990-1995.  I was working at Pennoni Associates with a group of fine men and women....and our Transportation Division had the highest morale of any group I had worked with before or since.  The group manager was Nelson Shaffer, who was a former college football player.  Nelson suggested that the group get together for a game of touch football on a Saturday.  I immediately began harassing everyone in the Division about how I was taking 'em out on Saturday.  I vaguely remember the opening kickoff.........I don't think I caught the ball, I think I was supposed to block.  All I remember is Tim Salvatore hitting me so hard--I don't know if I knew my last name.  I remember flying through the air, and I remember mud.......and Tim's smiling face.

This summer, I was privledged to spend a lunch hour with Tim.  Mike Venuto, Nelson Shaffer, Harry Laspee and Jerry Coyne were there, and Bill Brooks was there in spirit.  We talked of the past, we talked of the present, and of the future.  Tim's courage was beyond measure, and his concern for others was evident even at that time.  Tim was a professional, a gentleman, committed to friends, family and even his profession.   He was a great man.
